We're in this era where algorithms can basically paint and write and even think in ways that we've never imagined. And so it's really essential for us as business owners to understand the power behind the code. So today on the podcast, I'm joined by Dr. Nikki Sweeney, founder of AI her way, and we're going to dive deep into the world of artificial intelligence, why you as a woman should be using it, and how you can elevate your productivity and save time. When creating social media content. Using AI. Get ready, it's time to plug into the AI revolution. This is the season business podcast, where every week I'll explore topics and have real conversations around what it's like to run a regional business, the advantages and the unique challenges. I'm Donna Han, a seasoned regional business owner, and certified high performance business coach. Welcome to the cheesy business podcast, I've done a hand and today on the show, we are diving deep into the world of artificial intelligence. Now you would have seen AI tools popping up all over the place, and it's rapidly becoming the cornerstone of our future. So it was really important for me to find a guest expert to join me inside the soaring to success, membership and to teach what they know about AI. Now, if you're not familiar with my new membership, it's called learning to success. And it's the business and mindset membership for regional business women. Now every month, one of the things that we do is we get a guest expert to come in and present a masterclass either on our business topic or a mindset driven topic that you need to learn about in order to grow your business and stay at the forefront of innovation in this ever changing business world that we're in. Now I know as a business owner in a regional area, it can be hard to access this kind of information in my local area and traveling to a metro area can be an expensive exercise, depending on where I need to get to in the country. The logistics, also to arrange time away from our business, and my family can be a bit of a nightmare. And that's a huge reason why I created glory success because I wanted to bring the essential business and mindset training to you online, so that you don't have to juggle the logistics or justify the expense and time away from the home front. So my guest on the podcast today is also a guest expert inside the soaring to success membership for the month of September. And I sought out Dr. Nikki Sweeney, because I wanted someone who is passionate about helping businesses to stand out who is a regional business owner herself, because as we know, there are differences, challenges and advantages to having a regional business. And I wanted someone who's passionate about helping women. Plus, she is super talented in the space of sharing what she knows about AI in a way that's really easy to understand and implement. She's joining us inside the membership later this month. And not only is she going to be sharing her tips for using AI, and in particular using it to create social media content, but she's going to be doing live demos, which I'm really excited about to be sharing her screen. So that then members can implement that teaching and get immediate results. And that's the thing about soaring to success. The membership is it's giving you the knowledge and the skills and the input implement into your business and get the business growth that you want. So if you want to find out more about growing success, go to donhead.com forward slash waitlist. It'll be in the show notes. So you'll get that access to that recording. And I am just so excited to have Nikki in the membership, doing what she does best. And after sharing all of that. Let's get her on the podcast. Welcome to the podcast. Nikki.
Speaker 2 4:51
Thank you so much done. So lovely to be here. And can I just say that. I love your initiative coming from a city now living in a regional area. I think women in regional areas have some of the best ideas and creating space for them. And support for them is so important. So thank you so much for having me here.
Donna 5:11
I do so welcome. I would love to kick us off by inviting you to introduce yourself. And tell us why did you find out found your business AI? Whoa, wait, tell us all about? Yeah, sure. So
Speaker 2 5:26
yeah. Dr. Nikki Sweeney, as she said, I actually come from a science background. So my PhD is in conservation ecology, I studied butterflies of all things. Yeah, they're fantastic. I, this is a segue, but I studied butterflies because they they're only active from about 10am till 4pm. And they don't come out if it's like rainy or windy or cloudy or cold. So as a 22 year old, I thought that sounded kind of right up my alley. And I could spend four years doing that. But yeah, so conservation ecology background, and then I moved really quickly into being consultant as a data analyst for some really big companies like the UN, US aid, the US government, Australian agencies, and you know, like, engineering companies. And from there, I also always had a love of teaching. So I've been in higher education for 15 years now, teaching science to our young adults, and sometimes mature adults. And then yeah, when, when chat GPT blew up, as everyone, you know, I feel like chat GPT is the word of 2023, I immediately thought about, oh, my God, this is really going to change particularly at the time education and how we teach and how we learn. And it's really going to elevate that base level of understanding that we now have access to. And so I started talking about AI in education space in January. And because I also have a background of having my own businesses, so I've always sort of had a side hustle or two for the last sort of 10 years, and also running my consultancy business for last nine years. I've had that frame of mind of kind of understanding what the solopreneur needs. And I think by the time I kind of gave my second talk on AI and education, I had that moment where I was like, Oh, my God, you know, who really needs ai, ai, like it's women, right? Like, where the most time poor, we have the most kind of hurdles to overcome. We have brilliant ideas and amazing capacity. We are also more often than not doing more of the housework, more of the childcare. We are the people in the office that get the birthday things provided and arrange the other events. So we have all this extra workload. And I was like, If anyone stands to benefit from Ai, it's women. And so then I launched AI her way, particularly focused at empowering women to use AI. We know the stats suggest that men adopt and use these technologies more than women, I think at the moment, it's still it's the majority of men. So 70 something percent of men use chat GPT on a regular basis, it's only about 35% of women. We know that AI increases productivity by about 40% If you're using it. So I'm super passionate about putting it into the hands of women so that they can leverage it and save that time and the money. And also from a gender equality point of view. I'm really passionate about women being involved in this AI and machine learning era, because it's really integral that our voices are heard and become part of how these models operate.
Donna 8:49
Yeah. And I love that you say that, because that was going to be one of my questions around why is it important for women to be involved at this particular early stage of the AI? Coming into? Yeah, it's becoming commonplace now. Right? It's been? I mean, it's there. It's been there for a long time. But now that it's blowing up, why is it so important that women actually get in at this stage?
Speaker 2 9:15
To use this tool? Yeah, absolutely. And like, yeah, it's a great question. I think I feel like I have a lot of conversations with women, that kind of range, that whole spectrum of being very cautious with engaging with AI, and then it's less often, but you do, do have conversations with people that are really excited about it. And one of the one of the things that comes up a lot is I'm kind of waiting to see how big of a deal it is, or I'm not quite sure how to access it, or I just feel overwhelmed. And so I'm waiting for it to become a bit more user friendly. Those are sort of the common comments that I get from women in business. And what I say to them is that it's super important to be involved now. I actually think that the more cautious that you feel to Ward's AI, the more important it is that you are involved, because it's it's voices like yours that are important to steering the direction of AI. And if you think about, you know, the cat is out of the bag, right? Whether we like it or not, this has happened, we can't go backwards. And I mean, I come from a background in evolution, evolution is not about always doing what's best, it's about what makes things easier. And, you know, for animals, that means that you are able to have more babies, if life is easier for humans is about whatever makes our life more convenient. So AI is definitely that, whether we like the ethics or morality, or were worried about how we'll be used, the point is that it's here, and it we can't put it back away. So I think the more cautious that you are about it, you should be involved because you can actually steer the direction of these models. And if it's only the people that are super excited. And the data suggests that more of that population is men. If they're the only people using it, then it steers machine learning and AI and these natural language processing models is steers them in a direction that is maybe more more unguarded and and kind of roams free. And that is potentially scarier if if the people that are more cautious about it, integrate and use it and provide comment and feedback. It's, it's by design, and it's for customers. So if if you can steer it, or in that sort of direction that you want it. So that's one reason why women should be using it. Generally, we can be a little bit more cautious in a fantastic way. It's why we're better drivers, right? But in a in a better way we should we should interact with it because of that. So yeah, the second reason why I say that it's really important for women to be involved, is because these natural language processing models, so things like chat, GPT, these generative AI models, that's your being bad. It's Claude, if you've heard of Claude, it's not yet in Australia, but it's in the UK and US. It'll be here soon. These models, they use our input to train further models. So if you think about when cat GPT came out, that was version three went out 3.5. There's a paid version, which is version four, and they've just put in licensing requests for chat GPT five. So every time we put in queries, questions, feedback, we talk to these models, they use our input to train what the next model will look like, and the language that the next model is based off, if women aren't involved in that. So even if the current stats 30 ish percent of women 78% of users are men, that means that the next model will be biased towards the language that menus, the things that men want to talk about the responses that men say are good. And yes, well done. Give me more of that chat Tegrity. And it will learn that that's what humans want and need, which is only part of the story, right? So we are doing ourselves a disservice if we're not interacting with these models, because there'll become something that moves further and further away from something that serves women and serves our interests and reflects what we need from something that is meant to to talk and act and think like a human. It's missing the point if it talks and thinks and acts like a man, right? Like we have enough. Though, like if we can if we interact with it, and we can input stuff that is from our point of view, and validate its responses from our point of view. Then the next version of chat, GBT is a chat, GPT five, might be even better at reflecting, need and want in the way that we talk. And the other thing is, like from an ethical point of view, right? If we are scared about these things, turning into monsters, they're only based off how we talk to it. And women are lovely. So the more that we talk to these models, the better that these models will become, and there is a serious femininity that has to be contained in these models to make them good. All those kind of stereotypical values about the ability to nurture the ability to be empathetic, the ability to understand someone's point of view, to show care, they are strong in the female component of society and so we we make better AI when we have females involved. Yeah,
Donna 14:27
I love that you raised all of those points such valid things to keep in mind when we're looking and seeing all of this development around AI is not to be scared of it is to get in there and play around and explore and learn and the there are so many AI tools like aI on my feet of social media at the moment is like new ones like coming up all the time and people talking about them and how they use them and all of that kind of stuff. What are some free or low cost AI tools that you feel is really important for every women, every woman in business to be aware of like, strip it down for us, give us like this maybe a couple that you think are the go to, or maybe like the go to and add this plugin or whatever. Because it can be so overwhelming and you're like, try this one and try this one and try it. And then it's just like
Speaker 2 15:23
it is, it is so overwhelming for me. And I'm doing this every single day, right? So I, I often talk when I give conferences and presentations on this stuff I often talk about. I mean, there's there's lots and lots of websites that collate all the AI tools. There's one called there's an AI for that. And I gave a presentation in May. And at that time, I talked about this website, and I said, there's about three and a half 1000 Different AI tools at the moment, right that that perform about 1000 different tasks. And then I gave another talk in July. And at that time, there was about 5000 AI tools that performed about one and a half 1000 different tasks. And now there's seven and a half 1000 Different AI tools. So that means that every couple of months, we are gaining in the order of one to 2000 AI tools. And like it I mean, it's a little bit ridiculous, right? It's a smash and grab, we're in the Gold Rush era. Yeah, everyone is trying to launch something. The fact is that it's getting faster and faster, because we now have AI tools that help you build AI tools. So you don't need to know how to code, all this kind of access to what you used to have to know how to do to launch an app or a program, it's just falling away, the more and more that we use AI, which is great. But it also means that every time they can hurry has an AI tool out there. And a lot of them do the same sort of thing or don't really do great things. So one, I will I will warn the audience that a lot of AI people that you follow, all the AI tools are keen on great gaining an audience. So a lot of them have affiliate marketing programs. So I feel like when I'm watching, and again, you know, they may not be doing this. But I feel like when I'm watching a lot of these, what I like to call AI bros that tell you about how much money you can earn by making all these passive income products with all these cool AI. It's an affiliate marketing process, right, if you sign up to that AI tool using that link, they get the cash back from it. So it's in their interest make you feel like you should be using every single thing out there. And that you should be using a lot of paid products. From my from doing this all day. And every day, I'm still yet to find much better things than using chat GPT and Canva. Like that's your suite of products. If you want to pay Canva, they've got some pretty cool AI tools. Another free one in terms of graphic design is Microsoft designer. It's Microsoft's answer to Canva. It's free. It also does AI generated images based off you can put things like your brand colors into it and your brand slogan and your text type. So you can save a kind of brand pack like you can do on Canva. That would be kind of my two systems of graphic design, in terms of coming up with stuff. So when we talk about what you can do in your business with AI, if we think about coming up with a branding strategy, writing business cases, putting together pictures for grants, responding to emails, managing your workflow helping prioritize tasks. You know, client facing products, having copy doing SEO coming up with your content, you can do all of that in something like chat GPT chat, Jeopardy is free, I would say the paid version is worth it. Once you get to a point where you really feel like you've exhausted what the free version can give you and you're using it so much like I'm talking on a daily basis for hours a day, where you will actually notice the leverage between three, five and four because it's actually about five times as much data that goes into the paid version. That being said, for most people, the free version is going to be totally fine. And look you can explore with things like being bad llama, Claude, when it comes to Australia. In my experience, there lamb has got good reviews and has performed well in some research about its creativity and also around the morality that it expresses in its language. So it could be worth a shot in my experience that all the other models as yet aren't quite as good at coming up with really comprehensive answers. They're more kind of short and sharp to the point answering you in the most basic way possible and you've really kind of got to prompt it and drive it to give you more in depth answers. Chet GPT requires a little bit less work in that field. But yeah, I would say very long answer to your question but using one free generative AI so when I say generative AI, that's all the things that kind of turn out human sounding language, cat GPT is totally fine, you might have a preference for something else. And one graphic design tool, and my recommendations, there would be Microsoft designer, or Canva. There's so many more, there's some pretty cool free tools that turn text to video. But again, even in using those,
Donna 20:35
if you
Speaker 2 20:37
like, my experience with the text of videos, is the videos that they turn out are really kind of masculine. bashes problem about
Donna 20:47
men
Speaker 2 20:48
being like so we know that, um, I think it's it's about 91 or 92% of the people that create machine learning models and these algorithms and AI tools are men also issue but with the text of video tools that I've tried so far. They give you kind of cool videos that might be going on YouTube, personally, that don't really speak to my brand or my aesthetic because there's a lot of like, I don't know, skyscraper buildings and rocket ships and explorers. Yes. Oh,
Donna 21:19
I love it. So, okay, what I want to do is I want to come back from the break and I want to ask you about the specific topic that you'll be covering inside this Oriente success masterclass, which is all about specifically using AI for social media content creation, right, was a absolute game changer, you know, for saving time and just easing the, you know, the amount of content that we have to feed into the social media beast in order for it to, you know, return an outcome. So when we come back from the break, we talk to us about that. Yes, fantastic.
Speaker 2 21:58
And, yeah, absolutely a game changer, we can turn out now a month of content in a day. So yeah, let's let's let's do it.
Donna 22:09
If your interest in the soaring to success membership has been sparked, why not add yourself to the waitlist. By joining the waitlist, there is no commitment to buy, it just means that you'll get exclusive early bird opportunity to buy before everybody else. And not only will you get all of the upcoming future content that I have planned for you, you'll also be able to watch all of the previously recorded content that's already uploaded in the members library. And you can access it anywhere, anytime. So if you want to get in on it, here's what you need to do. Go to your browser and type www dot Donna hande.com forward slash success. That's Donna hand.com forward slash success. And you'll also be able to access this in the show notes. Looking forward to seeing your name pop up on the waitlist. Okay, so social media content creation, a massive, massive marketing component to running a business. And although it is unnecessary business activity, I believe it is also a huge time suck, it can, you know, throw up lots of blocks for people as far as like I don't have enough ideas or I'm just not a creative person. Maybe they don't have a background in marketing. Like I feel very lucky that I do have a background in marketing. And so you know, content creation for me, although it still feels like oh my goodness, I've got to do this thing. You know, I enjoy doing it. But that's not necessarily the case for everybody. So how can AI tools help women in business, especially in the parts of our business that involve marketing and saving time on social media content creation?
Speaker 2 24:11
Yeah, I think it's such a huge thing, because you're right, it's a really important part of our business. And, and it's some people's entire business. So I guess I want to preface this by saying, I don't think that AI replaces people. I think that if you if your business is large enough, and you have the capital to employ somebody that has expertise in marketing and content creation, I do think it's a good investment. What I concentrate on, I guess what I'm passionate about is those solo business owners or those women that have a fantastic idea, and they face the roadblock of not knowing how to get it off the ground because they don't have that capital to invest in all those different expertise and employing other people. And AI. I guess that's why I'm so positive about ai ai is because I think it is a great equalizer. And it allows so much more access and equity in terms of being able to launch and grow something without any investment because you can access now these tools for free, that can do a really great job. So yeah, preface that by saying if you are a content creator out there, and that's your full time job, and you're listening to this, I'm not trying to take work away from you, yet, I still have a unique human element that can be added. But I think, you know, if you're out there, and you're listening, and you're content credit, I think you'll agree there are basics that underpin all good marketing and a strategy to content creation, I'm sure that you have your awesome extra flair. But for somebody just starting out, there are fundamentals that are the same across the board. And the awesome thing is that AI knows those fundamentals, because it's been trained on one and a half million books worth of data about things like marketing and content creation. So there's definitely stuff you can access them. With your social media. So AI between like those tools that I've mentioned, just using a generative AI model, and a graphic design model, you can now make so much content so quickly. And for women, I'm so passionate about this, because it gets us over the hurdle of feeling. And I kind of hate the phrase imposter syndrome, because I feel like it's only applied to women. But, but that that feeling of I don't know if I have a space. And I don't know if I have a story to tell. And I don't know if anyone will listen to me. So sorts of things that you can do, you can get high level advice. So and I will teach more about this in my master class, but you always give something like chat GPT given a role to play. So you specify that you want this AI tool to act as an expert in social media marketing, and in content creation strategy. You might even be so specific to say, I want you to be an expert in Instagram growth. And then you can tell it about you and your business and get as specific and deep as possible. Think about it, like, you know, you're doing a half page bio about you. And when you tell AI about that, then when you start to ask about things like I want you to create a brand strategy, I want you to come up with content ideas, I want you to suggest captions, I want you to help me with my hashtags. I want you to help me define what images I should show in my reels on my YouTube videos, then those answers will be aligned to you as a brand and a voice, which straightaway gets you so much further than if you just and I'm sure there are people listening out there that have gone to church EBT. And if you've gone, what are some content ideas for my home bakery, it'll spit out really generic things, right? And then you're like, well, that's not me, or my voice or my brand. So I always preface this by saying whatever AI tool that you're using, be really specific about how who you are, what your brand voice is. Like, for example, when I get to write me emails, I say, I'm a Australian woman in her 30s that is supportive and kind and speaks enthusiastically but professional tone. And then the email that it gives me sounds way more like Dr. Nikki Sweeney than if I just get it to write me an email. You know, it might assume that because it's from Dr. uswe, it sounds really kind of pompous. Yeah, so to get really specific, and then what AI can do for you is it can suggest, you know, something I get it through a lot is I say like, Tell me 30 Tell me 30 ways that women in business can use AI that they may not already know about that really adds value to their work. And I can just churn out those ideas. And so what I do is I get it to churn out 100 ideas at a time. And then I put them all in an Excel spreadsheet. And then I give Canva, my Excel spreadsheet, and it makes me 100 posts automatically. So I've got thing to 100 pieces of value add information that my audience that my ideal audience, because I've described it to AI, I have made that content for those specific people. And it is aligned to the way that I sound. And I have 100 bits of it in less than 10 minutes. I turn it into posts in another five minutes. There might be a piece around making some of those pictures a bit different or adding some stuff. But then I have 100 bits of content. And then I batch it and you put together your carousel, same five slides. So then I go back to chapter 30. And I say okay, I'm going to present these five, five ideas together in an Instagram carousel. Now write me a caption that is detailed that has value add that has a call to action, all the things that you know I'm sure you do, too. Like you follow those people that tell you to post on Instagram, they're all saying the same thing. They're all saying post reels. Captions that add value, have a call to action or something for your audience to do After that speak to a single person that is your ideal audience. Yeah, the data that is training AI says that too, right? So you're going to get products that are aligned with the best that the internet knows about growth strategy or attracting your ideal client or selling to an online audience. The best stuff on the internet about that is all fed into AI, you just need to know how to access that. And so when I teach in this master class about what is good prompting, and prompting is just what you put into these models. How do you set that up so that it serves you? And how do you redirect it? And how do you know when you've done a good job? Basically, how do you evaluate that. And then, once you know how to do that, you just have that prompt saved. And every once a month, you run it through again, you get another 100 ideas. And you can just batch your content, and it just takes away that overwhelm of, again, it's some people's whole business, when you're running an entire business, you cannot afford to spend even two hours a day on content creation, you can't afford to do that. And so AI just has removed that limit. But you can still get something that's authentic. And that's really important. It's not just to take what it gives you the first time around and copy and paste. It is about having something that aligns with you and your brand and your voice and making sure that it adds value to your ideal client. And that's the part about learning how to use these AI tools effectively.
Donna 31:29
Yeah, and I've really liked that you're going to be presenting in the master class specifically about like how to use the prompts. Because I know that for me, when I put things into chat GPT if my prompts rubbish, then it's not going to churn out the outcome that I'm going for. And that can be some of the feedback that I've heard is like, oh, yeah, I gave it a try. But kind of doesn't sound like me, or it's kind of like not what I was expecting, I would get and I spent all this time in it. And it didn't work. And you know, but it really is about what the quality of what you put in is the quality of what you'll get out. And you coming into them soaring to success membership and sharing your screen. And so that we can actually see you demoing exactly what to do. And then how to take it from those 100 prompts and plug it into Canva and create the graphics like that is game changing and will save so much time. So I'm, I am so excited. I can't wait to see you in full swing and see all of those practical tips and those prompts and the screenshare demos like it's going to be so so awesome. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 32:39
And we'll walk through an example from like point A about when you're starting and how to tell generative AI, how to phrase and how to package up those prompts so that you are setting yourself up for success, and then how to get the end products or how to end up with those graphics that are ready to go. And then what I'll also do is in the masterclass whatever prompts, we're using that muscles, I'll also give you text copies of them so that whoever's attending whoever watches can take those prompts and start to use them themselves in like, chat GPT. Because like I said, once you have something that works well, you can just use it again and again. And then it's kind of a no brainer. And so coming up with content from scratch, then you don't have to do this kind of trial and error, you know that this prompt works. And you can take it and run with it. And then you know, it might also open the door for you to be like okay, this this is also scary. I can like I understand how to set up a prompt now understand what information I need to share. And so you can skip that kind of trial and error phase and go straight to chat GPT aficionado I like to call it up and then like yeah, the ultimate goal is not just social media, right? The ultimate goal for me for women in business and what hopefully this this masterclass will open the door to is the fact that these tools are actually waiting to be your 24/7 interns. And once you learn how to interact with them, you can feed them so much of your workload. And just you know, like I said at the start the data says you'll be 40% more productive so that it's like adding a part time person two and a half days a week to your business. What difference would that make in your in your business and you now you can do it for free?
Donna 34:28
Yeah, huge, massive, massive difference. You know what I've actually recently I shared this with a couple of my buddies is I've been using chat GPT to come up with many plans and shopping lists. And then I just turned that into coals and they do an online delivery. I'm like
Speaker 2 34:48
I shared a story a while ago about using it for meal planning. So I Oh yeah. Also toilet. Yeah. So it's it's not just business, right? It's
Donna 34:57
like yeah, and sometimes it can be I'd like, you know, you have a really busy couple of weeks or a month in business. And so you need the support outside of, you know, businesses inside your business. So this is why it is, you know, not only is it important that we learn how to use it, as you said, it's, there's just so much to it, and we should be utilizing it to get that 40% productivity inside of our business. But what about like in life? Yeah, right. Yeah.
Speaker 2 35:29
Yeah, and this is the thing you know, about, again, people that need this are women, like, yeah, the ones doing full time work in our nine to five full time work at home, and then potentially also a business or two on top, and then other ventures and friends, and were the ones managing all that mental load? So my gosh, yes, like AI is so powerful in that. And you'd like to that animal crab book, every wife needs a wife. And I don't know if that's the exact title, but you know, it's along those lines. And it's yeah, I might just be the wife that we've all been waiting for. I use it in meal planning, I use it to I dump my whole to do list and I say, Can you set out a work plan for how I'm going to achieve all of this in this time. And so of course, the work plan includes what the kids have got on, you know, what we've got going on around the house, what else needs to be done in my life admin with the bank, or, you know, the electrician, as well as my actual workload? You know, set the priorities? What are ways of doing this smarter? I even do things like, you know, can you set up a cleaning schedule for me so that I'm not overwhelmed by how much there is to do around the house or so that I can share it with my children? Can you set up an age appropriate chore chart? Like, it's just all that stuff that even though we all have capacity to sit around and do that, again, it's alleviating that mental load? It's like I don't have to be the one that does that. Because you are made for greatness. And yes, this is not building a torture. Exactly right.
